Research subject for a potential FP6 project

The solution of the proposed subject is based on the assumption that landscape changes are derivable from the comparison of its different developmental stages. Such approach requires data characterizing the investigated developmental stages of the landscape. The results reached by investigation of landscape changes in the Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, above all those obtained at the supraregional scales, confirmed the suitability of the use of the CORINE land cover (CLC) database in solution of the proposed problem, the aim of which is identifying, analysis, and assessment of landscape changes. The solution requires the CLC90 and the newly created CLC2000 databases, and the reconstruction of the natural landscape, which will characterize its state free from human regulation. Results of such study will contribute to understanding of the changes, development, and dynamics of the selected parts of Europe, which have been subject to different social and economic development.
