Research subject for a potential FP6 project

The research goal, connected with improving quality and safety of vehicles is aimed on simulation and partially experimental research of novel intelligent semi-active dampers, which would facilitate fast on-line change of damping characteristics according to road/track input. These dampers would substitute standard hydraulic dampers or controllable dampers, currently in practical use, as well as advanced electro-rheologic or magneto-rheologic dampers, which have hitherto not met all expectations.
The novel dampers, based on idea presented in [1], would improve comfort and in broader sense enable on-line control of chassis or seat dynamics and so contribute to safety in vehicle handling. Their design will be based on know-how gained during research of active electro-pneumatic [3,4] and electro-hydraulic active vibration control systems [5], bearing in mind substantial reduction in power consumption, as analysed in [2].
