Research subject for a potential FP6 project

Chemically modified clay minerals, such as montmorillonite, hectorite, etc., of thickness ~1-2 nm, different layer charge, chemical and sorption properties for applications as components in nanomaterials. The properties of these minerals can be adjusted for particular purposes. Typical examples are nanocomposites, polymers containing montmorillonite as additive, with substantially improved mechanical and/or barrier properties.
