Research subject for a potential FP6 project

In manufacturing systems the conditions can be frequently changed - e.g. some disturbances in feeding by raw materials or half-finished products on the entry of production cells, some changes on the market of products, customer demands for product innovation or/and for new quality of the products, etc.
In addition to this, the control task specifications (like criteria, constraints, etc.) are often given only verbally or in another nonanalytical form. It is necessary to use nontraditional means for their description, including a suitable knowledge representation. At the analysis of system properties and at the control synthesis advanced approaches should be used – Petri nets of different kinds, knowledge-based methods (especially the knowledge representation with the dynamic inference based on fuzzy Petri nets), soft computing methods (fuzzy approaches, genetic algorithms, etc.), methods based on modular understanding Petri nets, and several other methods. To deal with the control problems of manufacturing systems knowledge-based and intelligent methods of control should be developed. Intelligent manufacturing systems should be equipped by the knowledge base, preferably by the knowledge base with the ability of the dynamic inference of knowledge, in order to possess the ability of decision making in different situations. The main aim of the project is to analyze the possibilities of utilizing the particular perspective approaches, to imbed them into the control synthesis algorithms, to verify the algorithms efficiency in the process of the computer simulation, and to create the control software.
