Research subject for a potential FP6 project

Research subject is oriented on the modulation of intracellular calcium channels – IP3 receptor and ryanodine receptor – in cardiac tissue. These channels release calcium from the intracellular pools to cytoplasm. One part of our research is oriented on the modulation of these channels by factors that may potentially lead to the development of cardiovascular diseases (e.g. angiotensin II, adrenergic modulation, exposure to various stressors, myocardial infarction, ischemia, hypertension etc.). Intracellular calcium channels can be affected on the level of gene expression, protein translation and single channel activity. Thus, we will study the modulation of these channels at all three levels. Moreover, by blocking gene expression of these channels on primary cell cultures we can learn more about the physiological importance and metabolic regulation of these channels. Understanding of the mutual communication of ryanodine receptors and IP3 receptors with mitochondrial channels are also of the potential interest.
